Lyme Disease A Crisis to Health

Lyme disease is an infectious disease. A spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi, a kind of germ, is the cause. Deer ticks or western black-legged ticks bite people and transmit the bacterium to humans. These ticks are about the size of sesame seeds.

Lyme is considered a difficult disease to diagnose and treat. Lyme symptoms mimic hundreds of other diseases, and has prompted the medical community's nickname for the disease: the new Great Imitator. The Lyme bug is a spirochete, the same type of spiral-shaped bacterium that is responsible for syphilis.

The disease is spread through black-legged ticks, but Lyme-literate doctors suspect that the disease is spread through sexual intercourse and other means."It's in mosquitoes too," says physician and researcher JoAnn Whitaker, MD, of the Bowen Research Laboratory in Florida.

Symptoms of Lyme:

Flu-like symptoms
Muscle stiffness
Aching muscles
Fatigue for no particular reason
Unique enlarging rash (similar shape to a bulls-eye)

Deforestation is one reason for the increase of Lyme disease infections in humans. Suburban expansion has brought more contact between humans and areas which harbor many ticks, and has removed a number of the more common predators of harbors for those ticks

Remedies for Lyme

Daily intake of Multi-Vitamins. Are you part of the millions who do not take multi-vitamins? If you are, you will have a weaker immune system and suffer from less energy throughout the day. Lyme disease loves a weak immunity. The anti-Candida diet is called the cardboard diet for a reason. Eat only plain non-starchy vegetables and meats. If you don't feel like you're in a Medieval prison, you're not going far enough.

Reishi is an adaptogenic, medicinal mushroom. The term "adaptogen" means it educates the body on how to act in a proper, balanced way. If something's underactive, Reishi will strengthen. If something's overactive, Reishi will tone it down.

Oral antibiotics -usually doxycycline for adults and children older than 8. Use repellents only in small amounts, avoiding unnecessary repeat application. Try to reduce the use of repellents by dressing in long sleeves and pants tucked into socks or boots.
